Spanning over 30,821 hectares, the national park is located in the centre of Udawalawe reservoir fed by the Walawe river. The Park is known as one of the ideal spots to view elephants at close range.
You will also have the opportunity to photograph other wildlife such as Sambar Deer, Wild Buffalo, Mongoose, Bandicoots, Fox, Water Monitor Lizards, Crocodiles, Sloth Bears and the occasional Leopard. There are also around 30 varieties of snakes and an abundance of birdlife.
Embark on an adventure of a lifetime with a Wildlife Jeep Safari at Yala National Park! It is located approximately 24km Northeast of Tissamaharama. Yala is the best location to sight and photograph the rare and remarkable leopards. Other highlights of Yala include the herd of wild Elephants, Bears, Wild Boars, Buffalos, Deer, Crocodiles and many species of birds. The vegetation ranges from open parkland to dense jungle. There is also an abundance of water supply for animals and birds ranging from waterholes, streams, small lakes to lagoons.

Michael’s images have been published across Australia and the world, in hundreds of publications. He has also written many dozens of magazine articles on nature/photography since 2001, including Australian Geographic, Wildlife Australia, Birdlife Australia, the UK’s BBC Wildlife and Australian Photography +Digital (Australia’s largest-selling photography magazine) which he has been a feature writer for since 2006. Michael is honoured to be an Australian Ambassador for Lowepro, Lenscoat as well as The Nature Conservancy Australia’s Photo Competition 2015.
As one of Australia’s most experienced photography tutors, Michael presents photo workshops and tours across Australia and the world has done so for the past 14 years. Locations visited, or about to be visited, include Africa, Antarctica, the Arctic, the Subantarctic, Russian Far East, Galapagos Islands, Peru/Amazon and more. Arrive in Colombo
Welcome to Sri Lanka, the island with beautiful smiles and warm hearts! Upon arrival at the Katunayaka international airport, you will be greeted and met by one of our friendly chauffer guides. You will then be transferred to a lovely hotel in Negombo where you will refresh and relax by the Indian Ocean.

After breakfast, we will leave the small fishing village of Negombo for the first adventure and head to Mahoora Camping located bordering the Uda Walawe national park.

On arrival at Mahoora camping, we will start off with an afternoon safari at the Udawalawe National Park for guaranteed sightings of wild elephants. Mahoora Mobile Tented Safari Camps offer you the chance to experience an adventure which will dazzle and inspire you.
Return back to the camping after an exciting adventure and enjoy a freshly prepared meal by the Mahoora team under the stars.

We will begin day 3 with your second safari and we will head to capture some amazing photo shoot of the national park and its wild life. Tour group has the option to do either a morning and an afternoon safari OR opt for a full day safari based on their preference.
During a full day Safari, Mahoora team will deliver you a hot lunch to your location inside the national park. If you opt for a morning and an afternoon safari, return back to the camping site for a delicious afternoon lunch. Upon completion of the final safari for the day, enjoy another hearty meal freshly prepared for you with love.

It’s almost time to say good bye to Uda Walawe and Mahoora camping before we embark on one final morning safari at the Uda Walawe national park.
We will next head to our adventure at the Yala national park. Located approximately 24km Northeast of Tissamaharama. Upon arrival, you will be collected up by your host at the pick-up point and driven to The Noel Rodrigo’s Leopard Safaris campsite.
Enjoy a delicious alfresco lunch at the campsite and receive a briefing and introduction from your host, followed by an evening game drive.
Refresh yourself with a shower and enjoy some drinks from our jungle bar whilst your dinner is being freshly prepared for you. Wine and dine under the stars. Have an unforgettable dinner in the jungle and sit with a drink around the campfire, swapping stories about the amazing wildlife you have seen.

Morning and evening jeep safari drive into the park. Game drives provide the best opportunity for all types of wildlife viewing, from bird and butterfly watching, to sighting the major prey species and chancing an encounter with a big cat. The drives would incorporate different regions of the park, showcasing its huge bio-diversity.

We will leave for Colombo and head along the new highway OR take the long alternate route via the beautiful southern coast. Due to the long drive, there will be plenty of opportunities to take little breaks before you arrive at the Capital of Colombo. Check in to the iconic Galle Face Hotel and spend the evening at leisure OR take a stroll along the bustling city of Colombo.
